Website Create Stage

You will now start creating your website by following your plan and the chosen design. That means you cannot finish your product earlier or later than what is shown in the plan. The website should show;
- very good use and application of website techniques and tools
- provide details on any changes to the original design. This can be shown in the process   Journal.

The process journal should be used throughout the create stage. This should be done at the end of the time you worked on the website. The process journal must show:
  • Date of entry
  • What you did
  • a screenshot before and a screenshot after working on that section
  • Changes to the plans and why?
  • What you will do next.
N/B Process journal is only for create stage.

Design Stage Summative;

Design Stage Summative
This stage is after you have finished the designs. The plan for your product will need to have the following items:

1.     Introduction
This is simple paragraph, which explains the duration available for your product development and state those who will be helpful to you in the stage(s) coming.

2.     Basic Steps;
The basic steps are brief sentences outlining the main steps in the in the plan. The basic steps do not give details about the resources required and durations. Limit the outline of steps to 8.

A Gantt chart should be used after the basic steps. The Gantt can have only one additional pieces of information of when the task will start and end.

Gantt Charts can be development using online solutions eg. www.tomsplanner.com or www.smartsheet.com

Step # 6
Modify and change the format of the images to be used in the website to a suitable format.

3.       Production plan /Process Plan (plan for the creation part only)
The process plan is detailed information about process of creation. The process plan will use a table to show the step, activity in the step, the date, resources required, remarks and if possible where the task will be done.

The production plan is developed form the steps identified in the basic steps.

4.      Evaluation of the Plan
The evaluation of the plan looks at how realistic, logical, and achievable is your plan. Evaluation of the plan examines some of the steps to see if the duration or the resources assigned are sufficient and if not what are your suggestions to improve?

Example
“ the 90 minutes assigned to changing image formats was too much in my opinion. I will reduce this duration to 50 minutes since a few images formats will be used in the website. Where as Photoshop is a good software, access the software in our school is a challenge. I will therefore look for free online alternative software. One major change to my design will be the inclusion of flash images in the picture gallery or flash menu.”

Design Stage Digital Home Unit

In the design stage you are required to;
a) Generate good quality designs for your product
b) Measure each of the designs against the designs specifications
c) Justify your chosen design while evaluating it critically against the design specification

Designs

a)     The examples in the links below show examples of designs for different product.

 - What is your observation in all the above designs?

b)     How then do you measure each design against the design specification?
     Create a table and list some design specifications and rate each design spec for any of           design above.

Activity: Use your book or any software to draw the designs for the task below. (20 min)
Sony Company is interested in external laptop speakers for their new laptop model. You have therefore been requested to design two very good speakers designs.
a)      Use the design specs below to guide your sketching.

Design Specs
They should be two, which is one pair.
They should fit in a small case
Can be of any shape
Should not be more than 20 cms in length, width or height
The pair should be able to fit in each other when packaging.
b)     Compare the two designs using the designs specs. Which one meet most of the design specs requirements?
c)      So, which will be your final choice to submit to Sony Company and why? Prepare a detailed justification that you will use to defend your chosen design.

Design Stage Summative
Since your product is a website, you will design three good quality designs for your solution. The designs can be drawn and then scan for submission or students can choose to use appropriate sketching software.
a)     Each design will have at least three unique pages.
b)     Each design will be measured against your design specs stated in the investigate stage and briefly evaluate each design.
c)      You will then justify your chosen design by giving detailed reasons why the chosen design is the best.

Sample website designs link below.
